Day 4 - Outdoor Fun?

On Thursdays we are supposed to have either AM or PM exercises outside, either pool calisthenics, beach / park walk then some type of outdoor activity involving moving (try to) whole body groups such as legs / lower body (Tennis?) or upper body (Kayaking?)

This mornings blood pressure reading was 166 / 95 another drop, that's a point a day on both readings for the last FOUR days straight, so far so good.

As for morning pain, right hip is not bothering me but I haven't done any moving yet, legs stiff from yesterdays workout but not too uncomfortable. However, what does bother me this morning is my lower back and its tied to the first of several complaints I am beginning to compile about the facility, here are the first two:

The bed in the condo SUCKS, its only 5, maybe 6 inches thick and has absolutely NO support, not the type of bed for a heavier person; I sink all the way to the box spring it's like sleeping on wood. There is a second bedroom, that mattress is even worse. For this evening I plan to take the top mattress from the spare bedroom and put it on top of the main bedroom mattress and see if that helps. There are no other vacant units I can move to so this may be an issue going forward. If required due to increased back pain I can always rent a bed, there are several short-term furniture rental outlets in the Tampa Bay area with delivery and pickup, it sucks being big and getting old.

Of the 3 clients in the current program I am the heaviest @ 351 lbs (Per Monday's weigh-in), but next week two more will be starting and both are near 400 lbs, it will be interesting to hear their opinion on the sleeping arrangements after a couple of nights.

Second, the lack of availability to a hot tub / whirlpool, this is an issue for me and something I should have checked knowing beforehand I would have right hip related pain, it's not a deal breaker but not having a way to soak tired muscles for a while, especially an inflamed right hip is detrimental to gaining full recovery for the next day. Forget about filling the bathroom tub with hot water, the bathroom tub is WAY to small for someone of my size.

7:30am - Breakfast
No breakfast picture, another simple meal, 1 cup of wheat flakes breakfast cereal, 1/2 cup of skim milk, 1/4 cup of blueberries to put in the cereal and a small cup of low fat / low carb yogurt (Strawberry).

8:30am - Morning  Workout Session
The AM session was basically a bust for me, unfortunately the dilemma of being an "outsider" common to weight loss boot camps with larger attendance can be an issue with smaller boot camps also. The other three clients (did I mention they are all female?)  of the current boot camp are in much better shape physically than I am, yes, they are overweight but not near the level that I am. So I got overruled for the days outdoor activity which involved a mile plus walk to a park, then a return walk on the beach, something my right hip would not tolerate.

Trainers said I could do whatever I wanted in the AM since they went with the other clients, well sort of since the gym was locked, can't get access to equipment unless you are supervised (insurance regulations) so I stayed behind and did my 4 block walk, same distance as yesterday and same results, heart rate 140+ BPM and just ready to faint when I was done.

I sat down and rested for about 25 minutes, heart rate back to high 90's BPM then tried to do it a second time, BIG MISTAKE... After 2 blocks my right hip reminded me I'm still very fat and really started to hurt, a stinging pain that went down my right leg so I immediately turned around and limped back to the facility. This would have been a good time for a hot tub but there is none as I previously mentioned on Day 3 so I went in the pool for a while to cool down. I forgot to stretch this morning and I am wondering if that may be one reason why my right hip suddenly locked up on me.

11:30am - Lunch
No lunch picture, for the remainder of my stay at the boot camp we will limit food pictures, we have already established after 4 days the food quality at the boot camp is a 5/5 rating. I will only take a picture of any new and/or interesting items or if the quality takes a nosedive.

For lunch we had black bean and chicken wraps, similar to the wraps on Day 2 with that tangy home made sauce with 1/2 cup of cut cantaloupes.

1:00pm - Afternoon Workout Session
Beach walk, then calisthenics in the ocean, nice day for outside exercises. We repeated the calisthenics session at the pool after the beach walk, a relaxing, yet physical day outside. Friday we have our first circuit training, the intensity of the exercises will begin to increase daily starting with Fridays circuit, have no idea what items will be on the list, we were told to enjoy today's lite physical schedule, it will be the only day of this kind for the next 5 weeks, oh joy...

4:30pm - Dinner
I was tempted to take a picture, the meal looked very appetizing, we had a nice baked Salmon filet, about 8 oz on a bed of fresh spinach leaves and sliced tomatoes, 6 low carb / low sodium garlic crackers, 1/2 cup of steamed broccoli and 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries.

Lights out at 8:30pm
It was "recommended" to increase sleep time due to the changes in workout intensity in the weeks to come.

Overall Day 4 Experience: 4.5 / 5
