Day 33 - Ultrasound & CT Scans

6/15/2019 - Day 35
7:00 am - Saturday
Since Week 1, I have had difficulties in completing the full work out program due to pain in my lower back and right hip, those pain related issues have decreased somewhat as the weight has come off,or at least I have worked through the pain to allow an increase in workout intensity. However a new pain point has come into play, it started earlier this week while walking with the weight vest. As of Monday, 6/10/2019 I have been dealing with a muscle strain in my lower right calf that has been getting worse over the last several days.

The lead trainer was concerned of the possibility of a Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT), I am not a doctor nor is the trainer yet I felt the opinion of a possible DVT was a bit off the mark since I did not have any of the well known DVT in leg symptoms such as swelling in my foot, ankle, or leg, usually on the side where the DVT may be forming. I do have cramping pain in the right calf but it is not a constant or debilitating pain and it has not spread to any other parts of my right leg.

However, just to make sure I decided to take Friday, 6/14/2019 off from any workout sessions and schedule several preventive health screenings by having Ultrasound and CT scans. The Full Body CT scan included CT scans of my chest, abdomen and pelvis plus Ultrasound scans of my carotid arteries and full lower extremities.

The Ultrasound and CT scans took a few hours to complete, they are immediately reviewed for any major life-threatening abnormalities, then they are reviewed by a staff physician and the results plus a DVD of the images are provided to you and your primary care physician (PCP) within a few days. However, Ultrasound and CT scans are not 100% conclusive when it comes to detecting a DVT and I was told my PCP will likely request additional scans using an MRI instead of Ultrasound and CT depending on my final results. For now, nothing major was found and my right calf is simply suffering from a major strain that requires me to take it easy for a few days, weekend is here and that is exactly what I will do.
